What does the recruitment period mean?
A recruitment period of ninety (90) days will be allowed to all grantees. This recruitment period allows grantees to organize their grant activities, such as identifying new firefighters, prior to the start of the performance period. Under the Hiring of Firefighters Activity, the 5-year period of performance will start 90 days after the grantee was notified of their award. The period of performance will commence after this 90-day recruitment period whether or not the grantee has filled the new firefighter positions. If an awardee fills their awarded firefighter positions during the 90-day recruiting period, they will be afforded credit toward the final 12-month period of the grant in which the grantee has to absorb the entire salary.

What does "start date" mean on my award package?
The start date is the date when you may begin to apply for reimbursement of funds expended on the awarded activity. For example, in the case of the Hiring of Firefighters Activity, you are eligible for reimbursement beginning on the 91st day after award.
